The liquidity can’t flow into commodities for long. As investors bid up the price, consumption goes down. As discretionary spending shrinks consumption of non-essentials goes down. People cut back from beef to chicken to eggs to beans. It doesn’t matter what the price of a commodity is if people can’t afford it. People cut out everything to afford essentials and demand shrinks to just a few basic food items. Basic food commodities prices may go up but, overall consumption goes down. It’s a net negative for businesses who don’t deal in survival goods.
Interestingly enough, speculation is not allowed in the egg business. Anyone who contracts to buy a load of eggs must take delivery or pay a 10 % penalty. ALL sales and delivered prices are public.
