I believe the peak of one world government has come and gone. The institutions have been in place certainly since the end of WWII. The one-world currency (the USD) has had its run. It is done. Before we get to commodity backed currency again, we may see another attempt at a global fiat currency, but it won’t have many takers (they all see the disaster that is the Euro), and in any case cannot last long. A new currency cannot change the ratio of non-productive to productive.
Promises will be broken by the state, the state everywhere. When the theft via taxation and inflation can no longer maintain all the various transfer payment schemes, the people will look to other solutions. They will no longer worship the state as god, giving manna from heaven, free health care to all, safety from the bogeymen, etc. The trade of “I will allow you to control my life in exchange for safety and security” will come apart, because the state cannot keep up its end of the bargain.
What will happen then, when the millions (billions) can no longer count on their sugar-daddy? They will withdraw consent. Then the game will end, or at least take a very long half-time break.
In our lifetime? My guess is 20 years tops. But who knows.

IMO the next step for the Internet is a “semantic net” which leads to what we call the “global brain.” The global brain will be one of several ways super intelligent AI will emerge by 2035. After this happens — what’s known as the Singularity — humanity will either partner with AI, be abolished by it or be ignored by it. After thousands of hours of thought on these choices, I have come to the conclusion SAI will partner with Humanity. Even so, it will be unclear as to how sole or merged SAI will treat the power elite as SAI is autonomous, by definition. SAI may choose to delete the power elite and continue its partnership with enhanced/uploaded humans. This is the next horizon and the next concern of, not only the power elite, but all thinking humanity. We are giving birth to our nexus. The Singularity will happen within 20 – 30 years. You would hardly be surprised to know, JJ, that such as you talk about, is, and is controlled by those who develop it for the sublime remanipulation of human perception with IT and media leading programs.
And you may like to consider that it is the Perfect Storm Spoiler which comes out of nowhere to completely transform the misfortunes and take over the reins of power and control in both collapsed and rapidly failing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems, and the only way that concerned, previously established power elites can exercise any sort of influence over future events which will burst forth from the field, is to ensure that its controllers are supplied with all that they need, rather than them having to take/make what they need for themselves.

I wonder if the nature of the Internet Reformation is much deeper than that of the one 500 years ago. The level of education among the broad population of people in the world today is much deeper than that in the 16th century. If so, the effect may be much deeper as well.

IMO the next step for the Internet is a “semantic net” which leads to what we call the “global brain.” The global brain will be one of several ways super intelligent AI will emerge by 2035. After this happens — what’s known as the Singularity — humanity will either partner with AI, be abolished by it or be ignored by it. After thousands of hours of thought on these choices, I have come to the conclusion SAI will partner with Humanity. Even so, it will be unclear as to how sole or merged SAI will treat the power elite as SAI is autonomous, by definition. SAI may choose to delete the power elite and continue its partnership with enhanced/uploaded humans. This is the next horizon and the next concern of, not only the power elite, but all thinking humanity. We are giving birth to our nexus. The Singularity will happen within 20 – 30 years. Many AI scientists feel an AI learning kernel can be created and go SAI from a garage. This means, not even the power elite, can control it. Obviously the agents of war and waste will be remedied by enlightened, augmented humans and/or SAI so that the exploration and colonization of the universe can proceed much more rapidly. You would hardly be surprised to know, JJ, that such as you talk about, is, and is controlled by those who develop it for the sublime remanipulation of human perception with IT and media leading programs.
And you may like to consider that it is the Perfect Storm Spoiler which comes out of nowhere to completely transform the misfortunes and take over the reins of power and control in both collapsed and rapidly failing Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems, and the only way that concerned, previously established power elites can exercise any sort of influence over future events which will burst forth from the field, is to ensure that its controllers are supplied with all that they need, rather than them having to take/make what they need for themselves.

Second, the engineers / scientists who design / control the internet are very bright people. They will, en masse, provide alternative solutions when infrastructure becomes crippled by control. In fact, the internet is designed to be fault tolerant, routing around information transmission impediments. To a communications engineer, political or any other control of the free flow of information is a fault, as in general any who oppose the march of truth and freedom are “faulty” and will invoke a response proportional to and sufficient to counter any harm they may inflict.
Third, users will form their own private ad-hoc networks, unobservable by elites. If there is anything elites hate worse than their information / plans being exposed it is for others to have the ability to “conspire” against them, in secret and unobserved until it is time to unleash blowback.
